Abstract: ThispaperproposesaUnifiedVoltageandPitchangleControl(UVPC)strategyforfixedspeedwindfarm.Thefocusputonguarantee ingtheLVRTgridcoderequirementwhenthewindfarmsubjectedtoseverefaults.TheUVPCconsistofstaticsynchronouscompensa tor(STATCOM)voltagecontrol loopswithadequatepitchanglecontrol loopswhicharecoordinatedtoenhancethelow-voltageride throughcapabilityofthewindgeneratorsthereby,complyingthelowvoltageridethrough(LVRT)gridcoderequirementasdesiredby theGermanygridcode.DifferentscenariossuchassystemwithoutSTATCOMandpitch-anglecontroller,withSTATCOMonly,and systemwithSTATCOMandpitch-anglecontrol(i.e.UVPC)aresimulated.ThesimulationresultsshowthattheadoptionofSTATCOM andpitchanglecontrollerfulfillingtheLVRTgridcoderequirementtoensurethecontinuousoperationofwindturbines.Furthermore, aconceptofcriticalclearingtime(CCT) isdiscussedanditsutilityhasbeenemphasized.Calculations,simulationsandmeasurements providehowtheincreasedSTATCOMratingcanofferanenhancedstabilitymargin.
