Currently, various irrigation practices like localized irrigation, usage of sprinklers and sub-irrigation are being used while facilitating plant growth and conserve water. By making use of wireless sensor network (WSN) nodes in irrigation, a farmer can locate the specific areas, which need to be irrigated with limited amount of water and thereby avoid over irrigation and conserve water. This work considers a WSN based grid routing technique using which the whole of the observational field area is divided into grids. The soil water content measurements are carried out by making use of soil water content sensors over a time period. A model for the grid based WSN routing architecture has also been created using NS-3 simulation platform and a performance analysis has also been done.en_US
