Abstract: In this paper, we present Symbiotic organisms search (SOS) approach to optimize buffer allocation in manufacturing systems with tandem topology. Manufacturing systems are specified as closed queuing networks. Maximization of throughput is the objective function of this problem. Expanded Mean Value Analysis (EMVA) is used to evaluate fitness function of this problem. SOS and EMVA are used in cyclic manner to optimize buffer allocation in closed queuing networks. Numerical experiments are shown to explain effectiveness of procedure.
