Abstract: An Experimental investigation was done to study the effect of silica fume and superplasticizer in rich mortar mixes (l:1,1:1.15, I'l 2)using different grades of cement for use in high performance ferrocement works. In this part of the experimental program the Shrinkage and Sorptivity characteristics, which play an important role in durability of ferrocement, have been studied. It was concluded from the investigation that the addition of silica fume and superplasticizer in slag cement, improves the performance characteristics of mortar. The results of these characteristics at the end of 3, 7 and 28days of curing are presented. The rich mortar mixes with enhanced properties are termed as High Performance Motors (HPM)
