Abstract: The conventional way of rating the performance of a material subjected to sliding wear is in the form of P–V diagram. The seizing of material is due to changing in the elastic limit and flow stress due to thermal softening and in due course due to cold welding in localized region between the two surfaces. Because of these interactions the allowable pressure decreases with increase in velocity and vice versa. It is to be observed that simply by heat treatment of alloy the seizure resistance is enhanced by 12.5% and further 22.2% by dispersion of 10 wt% of SiCp to alloy. All these facts are discussed on the basis of prevailing wear mechanism.
