Abstract: An efficient, one-pot multicomponent synthesis of novel naphthalimide-based acridine-1,8-dione derivatives was achieved by condensation of dimedone, aromatic aldehydes, hydrazine hydrate, and 1,8-naphthanoic anhydride in the presence of a [bmim]HSO4 ionic liquid, which acts as a green solvent medium. Mild conditions with excellent conversions and a simple isolation procedure are noteworthy advantages of this method. The recovery and recyclability of the ionic liquid make this protocol environmentally desirable.
