Abstract: In the present study, a catalytic tubular reactor where Benzene is converted to Maleic Anhydride by partial oxidation process is considered, the unmeasured variables of which are concentration of reactants and products. A uni-dimensional dynamic model is developed and solved by “Method of Lines” (by C programming) as a simulation bed to obtain the Concentration and Temperature profiles. A computer dynamic simulation model is developed in order to study the variation of concentration and temperature throughout the reactor. The model has been further used for optimal sensor location and state estimation techniques. A novel methodology is presented for the configuration of the optimal temperature sensors and sate estimation in catalytic tubular reactor.
