Abstract: A convenient procedure for the synthesis of 14-aryl 14H-dibenzo[a.j]xanthenes is reported using the condensation of β-naphthol with aryl and chromone aldehydes in the presence of dipyridine cobalt chloride as the catalyst under solvent-free conditions.
