dc.description.abstractIn this paper, a novel algorithm based on a-coefficients is presented for solving VAR planning problem without numerous attempts. The proposed algorithm is simple, accurate and numerically reliable with reduced memory and execution time. The idea of a-coefficients is introduced for first time and used effectively for estimating required shunt compensation to improve the voltage profile in the system. The proposed algorithm was applied to the IEEE-14 and 30-bus test systems and results are accurate and promising.en_US
