| Abstract: | One of the important functions of a dispatching center is to control the power system during emergency conditions by dropping load or generation as necessary to prevent further system deterioration. Many methods have been proposed in the literature to solve the problem of rescheduling generation and shedding loads in an emergency state [1]-[4]. In all the methods the effect of frequency variation due to generation demand imbalance is not considered. The frequency charac¬ teristics of loads affect the overall performance of a power system under disturbed conditions. Okamura et al. [5] presented a new power flow model for analyzing the steady state behavior of power systems. The method treats fre¬ quency as one of the variables and is useful only to obtain load-flow solution. But it does not give optimal load curtail¬ ment to correct an emergency situation. This paper presents a method for optimal load curtailment in a power system taking into account of generator control effects and voltage and frequency characteristics of loads. |
